A devotee pierces his cheeks with a trishul during the festival. Tamil community of Bandel observe ‘Vel Vel’ festival to worship god “Shitala maa”. In this festival many devotees pierce their skin, tongue, or cheeks with vel skewers as they undertake a procession towards temple.
